Held at the Davis Theatre on Tuesday 17th November, the show will include a stellar line-up of performances – from Shakespeare and modern takes on beloved fairy tales, to pieces students have written themselves. This is the first year the music and drama showcases have been combined, and the drama and music departments couldn’t be more excited!

“The students have been working so hard and it’s wonderful to see their confidence grow and the pride they take in their work. We feel incredibly proud and are sure stunning musical performances and fantastic acting will make it a night to remember. It will be a bright highlight in the strange year of 2020,” says, Speech and Drama Teacher Charlotte Robinson, who is co-directing the Junior Drama Club showcase alongside Lori Wallace, Terri Mellender, and Laura Fuke.

Covid-19 and school closures have had a big impact on production opportunities this year, however ACG Parnell’s music and drama students have taken it in their stride.

“This production will be a product of resilience and perseverance. It is an expression of adapting and overcoming to create performance art, which in these uncertain times is a cathartic necessity.”

The show will include a cast of around 21 actors and backstage student helpers (from Years 7 to 10) as well as a large number of music students. Many students have written their own scripts, and have put together their own costumes, props and set designs for each scene.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to take ownership of their own scenes and to have their hard work celebrated by friends and family.”

With two months of rehearsals now behind them (not to mention pandemic interruptions), anticipation is high for the upcoming event.

“The students have learnt so much throughout the rehearsal process, from confidence building, teamwork and perseverance, to time management skills and creating strong work ethics. They are extremely excited to get to create and perform. Especially in light of Covid-19 restrictions on live theatre, it is an opportunity which neither the students – or us as their teachers and co-directors – are taking for granted!”
