School Readiness Programme
Building Confidence for a Seamless Transition to Primary School
Starting primary education is a big milestone — and finding the best childcare in Auckland can make all the difference. At ACG Parnell Preschool, our comprehensive School Readiness Programme ensures every child is fully equipped academically, socially, and emotionally for a confident and successful transition to primary school.
Designed for children aged 3 months to 5 years, the programme blends structured, age-appropriate learning with meaningful play, helping children develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to thrive in their next stage of education.
Early Foundations: Literacy, Numeracy & Life Skills
The programme develops core skills in literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving, while also fostering independence, resilience, and collaboration.
Children develop pre-reading skills through phonics activities, letter recognition, and storytelling sessions that foster a love of books and reading. Mathematical thinking is nurtured through practical activities involving counting, sorting, patterns, and problem-solving that build number sense and logical reasoning abilities.
The programme emphasises independence and self-help skills, teaching children to manage their belongings, follow routines, and take responsibility for their actions. Social skills development includes learning to share, cooperate, resolve conflicts, and communicate effectively with peers and adults. The programme focuses on essential skills such as following instructions, working independently, sharing and taking turns, and communicating effectively—skills just as important as academic readiness for success at school.
Integration with the Primary School Community
Our early learning centre maintains strong connections with the wider school community, with early learners participating in special events at the primary school. This integration helps them understand their place in the broader educational journey and fosters enthusiasm for future learning opportunities.
Additionally, regular visits from our 5-year-olds to the adjoining primary facilities help familiarise them with the learning environment and expectations of the next stage. They meet teachers and take part in activities alongside older students, easing anxiety and building excitement about starting Primary school.
Targeted Preparation for 5-Year-Olds
Our five-year-old children benefit from additional structured learning opportunities that mirror primary school routines while maintaining the play-based approach appropriate for their developmental stage. This thoughtful preparation equips them for school success and fosters a positive attitude towards learning.
The programme's success is evident in our graduates’ confident transition to primary school, where they not only demonstrate readiness for formal learning but continue to excel throughout their school journey.
